The Vision
In June 2019, work on this project took off the ground.
The partners in this new venture had a vision of a vehicle that would help the farmers and owners of small farm holdings.
Many rural farmers rely on donkeys to do the “heavy lifting” for them, which is where the catchy name Kotonki came from, this is a spin off on the word Kotonki is abbreviation of “Koloi ya tonki” (donkey cart in Setswana
Much like how the donkey would traditionally pull a cart or assist with carrying water, the Kotonki, is also a front propelled vehicle.
How did it all start?
Historical background
after the 2nd world war, the Germans developed the Unimog, an all-wheel drive medium truck. It was basic, very robust and without any unnecessary features. Hence it was affordable. This vehicle was very successful and is still marketed.
In countries around the world with many emerging farmers and small entrepreneurs, you will find a type of small truck/tractor that is versatile yet adapted to their specific market usage.
